Because You Need to Watch the “Freedom ’90” Video Again

A joyous, anthemic, sexy song, “Freedom ’90” is (or should be) all things to all people. If forced to listen to this song and sit still / not emote lest I lose a finger, I would be one finger poorer for life. And the video – the video! – perseveres as a triumph of truth and beauty. No superlatives here!

Chock full of supermodels of the starry female variety – Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington, Naomi Campbell, Tatjana Patitz – and the less famous, but still gorgeous male variety and bathed in all the right light (or absence of light), I strongly feel that these six minutes and 36 seconds are timeless. It’s ’90 in only the most glamourous sense.

Go forth and watch and let the confirmation of my grandiose opinions wash over you like Cindy’s gently-used bathwater.

PS: I still can’t hear this song without doing the Naomi one-shoulder shrug during “sometimes the clothes do not make the man.”
