The McCarren Park Pool is Open! Scenes from the Opening Ceremony

Local political dignitaries (and cronies, lol), and local residents were on hand this hot and sunny morning to celebrate the opening of the new McCarren Park Pool and Recreation Center. It was a pretty cute celebration that included an old-timey band, jokes about how “Brooklyn swims laps around the other Boroughs,” Bloomberg pining about how he is too old to be a hipster and mispronouncing “McCarren” (he said “McClarren” until he was corrected by the crowd on the third time), and a few dozen cute children swimming the ceremonious first lap across the pool.

The pool and facilities look really nice! There is a community event room, a computer lab, a weight room, a room for yoga and other workout classes, and a room with treadmills, etc. It’s $100 beans for an annual membership to the pool and facilities, and that gets you in to the rest of the pools and parks facilities as well.  If you just want to take a dip in the pool, it’s FREE! The pool is open from 11am-7pm with a break from 3-4pm. Early morning hours for lap swimming are possibly in the works as well.

A bunch more pics after the jump!
