Koyaanisqatsi is the first film in the Qatsi trilogy created by director Godfrey Reggio, with scores by Philip Glass. The late 70s and early 80s in NYC + nature + intense synth music = a recipe for success! Dan and I recently saw Philip Glass and the New York Philharmonic perform the score to Koyaanisqatsi live with the film. What I learned from that is that the best way to see this movie is to see it on a big screen with loud music and to drink lots of red wine.
Apparently there was a big fight over the rights in the 90s and it was largely unavailable, but all that’s been worked out and now you can watch the whole thing for free on youtube! Watch it. Get high on wine and synth. You’ll be happy.
