Bring on the Spring with Espadrilles from Basic French

Everyone loves their Toms, as I do mine, but after buying myself a pair of espadrilles on my last trip to Spain, I’ve been converted. The woven sole provides a more ample cushion than the rubber-soled alpargatas, not to mention that they just make me feel like I’m on my way to the beach.

Navy Blue Espadrilles from Basic French

A year ago these were pretty hard to source in New York, but I’ve been seeing them around more and more. They’re a classic, a must for every spring/summer wardrobe – easy to pair with anything and easy to slip on when you’re running out of the house. I use mine when I walk the dog in the mornings, and I don’t care if they get dusty from the park. With a nice striped St. James top, French would so do!

You can get your own pair for $26 on the Basic French website (if you hurry you can get them on clearance). There’s also an espadrille street vendor that sometimes shows up on the corner of Prince and Mulberry streets in front of St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral, his go for $16.
