Citrus fruits are by far my favorite fruits. Oranges, grapefruits, pomelos (which PA Melissa introduced to me), clementines, I can eat them by the crate load. In my office, I wait eagerly for the winter months when our fruit of the month box arrives, full of tart California mandarins and sweet tangerines.
So I couldn’t believe my luck when I discovered that my boyfriend’s grandfather has the same appreciation for citrus. Every year, he sends his children and grandchildren a glorious box of mineola oranges – the kind of fruits that are perfectly sweet/tart and so juicy they come with a bib. Our shipment arrived yesterday, and we put it to work this morning for an eye opening breakfast treat.
As I cut the rinds off the oranges, my boyfriend dutifully juiced the flesh. We added a couple of carrots and a slice of ginger, and voila! A nutritious, tart, and spicy way to start the morning. Now if only I could get a posse of magical elves to clean up my juicer…
