Before there was R. Kelly, there was Harry Roy.

I was sent a copy of Dust-to-Digital‘s newish compilation Baby, How Can It Be? Songs of Love, Lust and Contempt from the 1920s and 1930s at the old day job. It’s composed of three discs, each centered around either love, lust, or contempt. The love disc was pleasant, but I had no idea what kind of old timey filth I was in for with the lust disc…and I mean that in the best way possible. The one that really made me go “OMGWTFLOLNSFW” was this track from Harry Roy, a band leader and clarinet player from London who recorded this highly provocative ditty in 1931. Dudes, trust me on this one and give it a listen.

You can buy the whole compilation at Insound.
