A Funny Thing Happened at the Last Harry Potter Movie

I looked at Snape and I thought SNAPE LOOKS GOOD.

What?!?!?! What the hell was going on? Was my brain on backwards? Professor Severus Snape, nemesis of Harry and all of Gryffindor? The hideous woman? But yes, it was true. Snape’s flowing black robes, his mysterious intentions, his freshly washed hair. All of it was working for me.

And then it dawned on me: Snape is played by the glorious Alan Rickman, an accomplished stage and film actor who has been nominated for and won numerous Tony, Emmy, and Golden Globe awards, and has been named to many a top 100 best actors/hottest people/master of universe/etc. list.  He of the velvety voice and intellectual brooding villain. He of Les Liaisons Dangereuses.  He of Die Hard.

On Wednesday night PA Nicole, PA, Kiki, and I are going to see Alan Rickman in John Gabriel Borkman at BAM with our menfolk.  I’d like to pretend it is because I am a fan of late 19th-century Norwegian playwrights, but the reality is that I just want to hear the voice and see the man act in person.

The Man, the Voice: Alan Rickman.

And so, as I was trying to search for a brooding, black and white picture of dear Alan Rickman for this blog post (which I clearly found), I realized that my favorite Alan Rickman look is…. Snape.  Obviously.  So, here he is.

Alan Rickman as the Tortured Severus Snape

If there is anyone else out there struggling with this ‘Alan Rickman as Snape is hot’ situation, holler at me.  Let me know I am not alone.  Also, I would like to add something to the list of things that a year ago I never would have believed I would be doing: writing a blog post about how I think a 64 year-old man is attractive.  That voice truly does have magical powers.
