Since getting glasses in the 5th grade it has always been a dream of mine to have a few pairs of frames to choose from when I get dressed in the morning. Since I mostly wear contacts though, I have never really been able to justify the money. Instead I have one pair of dark tortoise frames that are very practical (and hopefully a little cool.)
Recently though, I discovered the website warbyparker.com and I’m beginning to think 2011 may be the year of glasses. They have a great selection of stylish glasses for men and woman (like the Zagg frames shown above) and they are all $95 including the prescription. If affordable and stylish are not enough, they also partner with non-profits to deliver one pair of glasses to someone in need for every pair that they sell. The catch is that they are an online retailer but they will send you up to 5 trial pairs to try on at home so you can decide what works best for you with free shipping and returns.
They also have a fun virtual try on feature on the website that is amusing to play around with and does give some idea of how the frames would work. I like the idea of having one pair that is really fun and doesn’t go with everything, maybe even in blue.
If you are in NYC, SF or LA they also have showrooms where you can try on frames and they are carried at the Steven Alan outpost in Brooklyn. It all seems a little too good to be true but I am going to put in my order for the trial pairs and I will let you know how it goes!
