The WTO Information Technology Agreement (ITA) is a tariff liberalisation agreement. Canada is a signatory to the World Trade Organization on Public Procurement (WTO GPA) agreement, which aims to open up public procurement among participants. The province is subject to the WTO GPA through an agreement between the province and the Government of Canada. The WTO GPA sets rules that impose open, fair and transparent conditions of competition. Departments must respect the terms of these trade agreements when contracting. The Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement between Canada and the European Union (CETA) is a Canada-EU trade agreement that aims to abolish and reduce tariffs, facilitate tariffs and trade, ensure non-discriminatory market access, promote regulatory cooperation, establish compliance assessments for product assessment and certification , to enable the mobility of workers and to open public procurement. Although the CETA negotiations are complete, it has not yet entered into force. On October 30, 1947, Canada and 22 other nations signed the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) in Geneva. The aim was to promote international trade by removing barriers such as tariffs and taxes on products imported from another country. This should be a temporary agreement until the itO is officially established. The CPTPP contains many public procurement provisions, which are similar to Canada`s other obligations in the international trade agreement on non-discrimination, fairness, openness and transparency.
