I was pretty sure this post was going up late, but I just couldn’t help myself. Then I started asking around and realized that there are a lot of people out there who haven’t yet watched Broad City, despite the fact that the season finale aired over a month ago. Regardless of whether you think you have the time, watch at least one episode of this Comedy Central show. They’re half-hour episodes of the hilarious lives of eponymous protagonists Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer, two women in their twenties navigating their NYC lives. If you’re thinking Sex and the City, you have a rude awakening coming. You won’t find ballerina skirts or girly talk over mimosa-fueled brunches. Instead you get what actually feels like my real life as a twenty something stumbling my way through my first years in the city. Small apartments, gross roommates, bed bath & beyond love, and a truly on point depiction of what goes on in a city dweller’s head when she’s forced to pick up a package at a UPS warehouse.
This show is definitely for ladies and gents alike, since the very picky Steven Brahms has not once complained when I’ve put it on. However, there have been mixed reviews from within the PA camp. Hillary needed a few episodes to warm up to it, and Nicole wasn’t convinced after a viewing. My take: if the first episodes don’t really do it for you, skip ahead and watch one from later on in the season – “Destination: Wedding” is one of my favorites, where Abby and Ilana somehow manage to capture what happens when you try to make it to your friend’s wedding in Connecticut.
You can apparently watch full episodes on the Comedy Central app, but if you’ve got Hulu they’re running them too. If you go to the Broad City website, you can also catch episodes of their pre-Comedy Central years, and outtakes of old shows.
