First things first: Fatima Al Qadiri is a creative genius. Born in Senegal, raised in Kuwait and currently living in Brooklyn, she’s both a visual artist and musician/producer. Her 2011 album “Genre Specific-Xperience” is probably the record I listen to most on planes – it’s haunting, engaging and calming all at once, so perfect for reading or relaxing/dozing/meditating. In fact, why not just check out a sample here:
But back to the banger alert – Fatima Al Qadiri also has a bunch of side projects – including Ayshay, CHLDRN…and newly Future Brown. This track – “Wanna Party” featuring brilliant/teenage/Chicago rapper Tink – mixes Fatima’s haunting production with Tink’s swagger and it really, really works. It sort of takes me to the same place as the latest records from Pusha T and Kanye – simultaneously dark and bright. Check it:
I dunno about you, but I’m ready to hear more.
And just as a side note, the babeness of Fatima Al Qadiri:
If you like what you’ve heard, Future Brown will be a part of the next Forms event at PS1 this Sunday. Details below!
