Oscar Blandi Texture and Volume Spray: Helping Straight-Haired Girls Achieve their Big, Wavy-Haired Dreams

It has long been my dream to achieve the ginormous hair of a 1980s beauty queen or a devastatingly beautiful disco dame. Since I was born with straight hair that doesn’t want to hold a curl to save its life, it has always been a challenge to achieve my big haired dreams. My hair is fine fine fine, but there is a lot of it, so there is potential for big hair. Now I now that a lot of people want straight, waterfall-esque long hair don’t care, but I would gladly give up the waterfalls for waves.

So how am I (occasionally) achieving the big hair that I have always dreamed of? Four things:
  • I cut some of the length off and added more layers. This is probably the least important move.
  • I started using some color on my hair. This probably damaged my hair, which  is an integral part of the process because it holds a curl better.
  • I use a ceramic cone curling iron that gets pretty hot hot hot (early version of my beachy hair attempts in link).
  • Most importantly I have found a volume spray that REALLY works: Oscar Blandi Texture and Volume Spray.
Oscar Blandi works sort of like a less-sticky hairspray or a dry shampoo that feels like it coats the strands of your hair to make it more coarse and full. I’ve tried a TON of texture products over the years, but this one is the only one that I feel delivers on its promise. We blogged about a different kind of beachy wave hair product here, but I think this texture spray bumps it up a notch… for my purposes at least. It works for my hair when it is both straight and curled. I want my hair to be THIS BIG you guys.
For a WAY cheaper alternative that isn’t quite as fabulous but still gives a bit of the same effect, try the Suave Professionals Dry Shampoo Spray with keratin infusion.
