Melissa and I spent an inordinate amount of time one year searching for the ideal shopping tote. Our ideal model was the Louis Vuitton Neverfull, a bag that everyone seemed to be carrying back in 2010. The shape is ideal, spacious enough to store your prized possessions (as its name seems to indicate), sides that widen from the bottom up, and thin, flat handles that don’t cut into your shoulder. The drawback: the LV logo that just isn’t our jam.
But two years ago, no one was making anything that came close to this instant classic, and so our efforts at finding a comparable bag fell short. It took time, but Michael Kors finally stepped in the game with their Jet Set Travel Tote. It’s shaped just like the Neverfull, but it comes in single-colored saffiano leather with a minimalist logo for the branding averse.
I’m partial to the caramel-colored tan version, but the white could be just the thing for my new, all-white summer mantra. Major bonus points for the fact that it’s extremely affordable (as far as large leather goods go), at $278 for the big guy. Who would’ve thought that a bag brand I’ve consciously avoided because of its questionable MK monogram would beat the venerable LV at the simplicity game?
Check it out on the Michael Kors website - the collection’s bags start at $228.
