The Banger Report: Vol. 2, Lady Party

In this Lady Party edition of The Banger Report, I’d like to start with a song and video that evoke the deepest essence of ladyhood. That song and video: “QueenS” by the duo THEESatisfaction whose music was described better than I could by their label Sub Pop as “funk-psychedelic feminista sci-fi epics with the warmth and depth of Black Jazz and Sunday morning soul.” Intrigued? Also, the video (directed by filmmaker and journalist dream hampton) is beyond gorgeous. Take a watch/listen.

Banger #2 admittedly did not grab me immediately…and it’s not even exclusively a lady party, but I digress. Yes, it breaks my arbitrary self-imposed rules, but it’s so good that I don’t care. This track I doth speak of is the new Major Lazer (aka Diplo and Switch) single “Get Free” featuring Amber Coffman of Dirty Projectors (who you may remember from “Stillness Is the Move”). The first time I heard it, I thought it was a little boring, but then I found myself hitting repeat over and over and OVA. It’s official. This song is a tropical banger. You can download it for free here by entering your email address.

Banger #3 is one that we PAs have been banging for quite some time, but for some reason we haven’t yet proclaimed our love publicly on the internet. OK, it’s official now. Grimes, we love you! We love you, your lisp, your music, your Peter Pan collars, and the whole Canadian package you are serving us. You may have heard “Oblivion” by now, but if you haven’t seen the video, trust us. Do it.

You can also grab vinyl + CDs from THEESatisfaction and Grimes featuring the above-mentioned bangers at Insound.
