We love Whitney: A Video Tribute

Dear internet: since the way-too-early loss of the legendary Whitney Houston, we’ve been thinking about some of our favorite Whitney memories. Many of the most vivid of our favorite Whitney memories turned out exist in video form. So without further ado, we would like to present our video tribute!

Kat: I think my fav Whitney song of all time has to be “I Have Nothing” because it is just SO EPIC. Can you even *get* any more dramatic or amazing than those few bars directly after the key change in this song, including the *ultra dramatic pause* after the “don’t you dare” lyric?!?! The answer is a resounding “no way!”, because it just doesn’t get any better than that. RIP, Ms. Houston; nobody does it quite like you.

Kat: I think Whitney’s rendition of the Star Spangled Banner at Super Bowl XXV in 1991 is just about the most perfect and glorious performance of the Star Spangled Banner that I’ve ever heard and puts me on the verge of tears each time I watch it!

Melissa: My two faves are the oldies, “How Will I Know” and “I Wanna Dance with Somebody.”  I remember watching “I Wanna Dance” when I was little on TV and thinking she was the coolest prettiest person ever.

Tammy: The “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” video is just amazing. But my memories of Whitney are “I Will Always Love You,” and slow dancing with boys at birthday parties in Brazil when I was 11 – hahahaha.

Nicole: It’s so hard to narrow down my favorite memories of Whitney, but the song that keeps coming back is “Saving All My Love for You.” I mean DAYUM! It starts off all smooth and innocuous sounding, then BAM! In comes the bridge with its extreme business-meaning “toNIGHT is the NIGHT” and it’s over. Suddenly, your finger is jabbing down towards the ground, your hips are swiveling uncontrollably and if not singing along, you’re definitely lip syncing for your GD life.

In conclusion, I implore anyone doubting the sheer power of WH and her voice to listen to this isolated vocal track from “How Will I Know.” Sheer. Insanity.
