The summer’s on us full blast, with 90 degree weather and still city air that just clings to your skin. I’m not complaining, I love the heat, but that’s not to say it’s nice to get out of this hot breath and escape into the country for a couple of days. Whether it’s a trip upstate or just across the Hudson to visit the folks in the suburbs, weekends out of town are just about my favorite part of the summer.
But one must be prepared for all that summer brings – lush gardens, camping trips, log cabins, and lest we forget, Father’s Day! The folks over at Kaufmann Mercantile have gently reminded me that Dad’s party day is coming fast, and I don’t have a gift for him yet. My dad is particularly fond of grilling, and he’s one of those guys who’d never be caught dead with a bottle of lighter fluid in his hands. It’s sticks and newspapers or nothing. But how to hack up that firewood? I’ve got my eye on the Estwing Camping Hatchet ($36). A sharp blade, an elaborate leather cover, and an elegant handle make it just luxurious enough to be a fine gift.
