I’m always willing to share a dessert at the end of a meal, but there are certain things that a girl won’t split. Whenever I see sticky toffee pudding on a menu, I will warn my friends that there will be no foreign spoons touching my dessert. PA Hillary reminded me of my love for the pudding when she returned raving about the desserts she ate during her trip to the highlands (or Scotland.) This classic dessert from the UK isn’t a common sight on NYC menus, but there are a few places that make divine iterations of it.
I remember eating a date cake saturated with heavenly caramel sauce at Five Points, and I will never forget the cake at Cafe Moto, in Brooklyn. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve declined dessert at another restaurant, with the thought of dropping by the bar at Moto for their “Warm Date Cake with Toffee Sauce & Fresh Cream.” I haven’t been there in ages, but I suspect you’ll soon find me there, hogging that sauce all to myself.
