As I explained in one of my earlier posts, I am a huge fan of Suzanne Collins’ YA trilogy, The Hunger Games. So, naturally, I have been extremely interested in the recent casting choices for the upcoming movie version of the first installment, to be directed by Gary Ross, director of Seabiscuit and Pleasantville and screenplay writer of the beloved 80’s movie Big.
As much as I loved Big and Pleasantville, however, I am VERY DISPLEASED with the recent casting choices of Mr. Ross and casting director Debra Zane for the roles of Peeta Mellark and Gale Hawthorne, the two male leads and also love interests for the trilogy’s heroine Katniss Everdeen, to be played by the super talented Jennifer Lawrence. Peeta will be played by Josh Hutcherson, recently seen in The Kids Are All Right, and Gale will be played by Liam Hemsworth, recently seen in, um, The Last Song, also starring (wait for it) Miley Cyrus?!
And I repeat: WTF x80 Thousand Million! What are these crazy casting choices?
DO. NOT. GET. IT. Does Josh (possible stoner) look at all like blonde-haired, blue-eyed Peeta, or does Liam (probable frat boy) look like tall, dark and handsome Gale? NO! Can either of these fellas act particularly well? WHO KNOWS! I realize that the magicians in Hollywood can easily change a person’s hair and eye color, but they certainly do not have the ability to magically increase a person’s acting talents, and I stand by my belief that this casting is EXTREMELY off. Is this casting real, can it be true? I wish it weren’t, my friends, but I guess I can’t always get what I want, can I? At least not this time around, anyway…but how about you? Are these casting choices in line with the actors you wanted for Peeta and Gale? Please tell us, we’d love to know!
