Buttermilk Channel opened to plenty of buzz in November 2008. With items like fried chicken with cheddar cheese waffles on the menu, I was anxious to give it a try. However, when I finally made it there I found the food nowhere near worth the disappointing service and hour plus wait for a table. I finally returned a few weeks ago, this time for brunch and I’ve completely changed my tune. I would have been happy to wait hours for just a few bites of their delicious baked goods and eggs benedict.
We started our meal off with a few sweets — warm coffee cake, warm sour cream donuts, and pecan pie french toast. All three absolutely delicious, perfectly warm, sweet, and gooey. (Sadly, they didn’t last long enough for me snap any pictures.)
Most of our table ordered the eggs benedict, which they call eggs huntington — poached egg on a buttermilk biscuit, thinly sliced country ham, and hollandaise. I’ve eaten a lot of eggs benedict in my time and I will say these are definitely some of the best I’ve had in recent memory. (I’m now dying to go back and try eggs huntington on cheddar cheese waffles — thanks to the geniuses over at Blondie and Brownie.)
Some other delicious items we tried were the buttermilk pancakes and home-made granola with organic yogurt. Both were definitely yummy but I would find it hard to return and not order the eggs huntington.
Buttermilk Channel is located in Carroll Gardens at 524 Court Street. Brunch is served Saturday and Sunday, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
