Les Miserables 25th Anniversary Concert

was. epic.

Ok well, I didn’t exactly get to see it in person.  But, Nicole and I did go to a sold out showing of the concert movie at an enormous theater in Times Square.  It was one of many sold out one-night-only special concert showings of the concert (you know those “fathom events” that you always see commercials for before movies in New York?  It was one of those!).  Seeing the musical concert movie (yes, it was all three of those things) with Nicole and a bunch of Les Mis superfans was delightful.  I wish I could do it over again!  Luckily the DVD of the Les Miserables 25th Anniversary Concert came out last week, just in time for Christmas.

Ramin Karimloo: The Chuck Bass of Musical Theater

Thank you to Cameron Mackintosh for introducing me to Ramin Karimloo (Enjolras), and the AMAZING Alfie Boe (Jean Valjean).  Two West End superstars who performed in LM25 at the O2 in London.

Alfie Boe: Britain's Favorite Tenor and Jean Valjean NOT to be Trifled With

Alfie Boe in particular has an interesting story:  at age 17 he was working at an auto garage in Lancashire, England.  He entertained his colleagues by singing opera arias while he worked.  Alfie was overheard by a garage patron with connections in the music industry who suggested that he go try out for D’Oyly Carte Opera Company.  One successful audition later and we had a superstar on our hands.  His voice brought tears to my eyes (and his own eyes in LM25).  True story.
