A Perfect Sunday Breakfast
There’s nothing I love more than spending a cold, rainy New York Sunday eating the perfect breakfast – a latte and a pastry. I’m particularly fond of the creamy lattes and Filone French Toast at Cafe Pedlar in Cobble Hill. Filone French Toast is made using thick cut slices of Italian filone bread, which is similar in texture to a French baguette, and lots of sugary goodness. Unlike traditional french toast, it’s served room temperature. The outside is a mixture of sweet crispy and chewy caramelized layers, while the inside is soft and less sweet. It’s the perfect mix of textures and just the right amount of sweetness to pair with coffee. All the pastries at Cafe Pedlar are made at Frankies 457 in Carroll Gardens. I wonder if they’d share the recipe…
You can try it at either of Cafe Pedlar‘s locations.

Now all I can think about is Filone French Toast! I might just have to settle for a croissant….life it is so hard.

Everything made by Frankie’s is amazing. My sister-in-law had her wedding there and it was by far the best wedding food ( and just plain food) I have ever had!

Everything should be covered in caramelized sugar. I need to go to Cafe Pedlar ASAP!

I wish I could caramelize everything. Is that possible? Right now I’m having a hard time thinking of things that I wouldn’t want to caramelize. I am also reminded of Cake Hero’s (PA Melissa) yummy caneles. I think I ate three of them last weekend. I will gladly eat three of them again.

I second that emotion.

Also, every time I see Thea check in at Cafe Pedlar I am going to imagine she is eating one of these. I will imagine that she starts every day with the a most delicious treat, even if it’s not true. Because that will make me happy.

I wish I could start everyday with one of these, but I don’t think it would be ideal for my waistline. Everyone should try it at least once though. It’s truly amazing.
